Who is the Last Jedi? Everything you need to know about Stars Wars Episode VIII

An enigmatic two-minute teaser for the film, released in April, showed Luke training Rey to use her Force powers on his rocky mountain outcrop, before telling her “I only know one truth – it’s time for the Jedi to end.” It’s a line that drew attention to the obvious question posed by the film’s title…

Who is the last Jedi?

Conveniently, Rian Johnson cleared this up once and for all. Speaking to the New York Times in September, he said the title referred to Skywalker, but added that there might be “wiggle room” for other interpretations.

“It’s in the opening crawl of The Force Awakens,” he said. “Luke Skywalker, right now, is the last Jedi. There’s always wiggle room in these movies – everything is from a certain point of view – but coming into our story, he is the actual last of the Jedi. And he’s removed himself and is alone on this island, for reasons unknown.”

Who is in the cast?

As well as Ridley, Hamill, Driver and Fisher, returning cast members from The Force Awakens include John Boyega as runaway Stormtrooper Finn, Oscar Isaac as X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron and Lupita Nyong’o as the animated alien pirate Maz Kanata.
