Adopting A Child

adoption photoI am always amazed at the sheer number of people that I meet that want to adopt a child. It makes me feel good to know that so many people have that much love in their heart, and I believe that there are several good reasons to do so.

The first and biggest benefit that occurs with adoption, obviously, is that, in most cases, a child is going into a loving home. To adopt a child is to give someone a chance a normal lifestyle that many of us take for granted. When one considers the impact it can have on a child’s life to to this, it seems like an easy option, but a lot of time, effort, patience, and of course, money, goes into a raising a child, which should be addressed before the decision is made.

I also believe that when one makes the decision to adopt a child they are also providing a young person with a better opportunity to achieve something great in life. With the support of good parents and a stable environment, a child can achieve a lot. That is not saying that they will be the next Albert Einstein or Jonas Salk, but they have a better chance.child photo

There are also those families that have “only children” and would like to adopt a child so that their own child has a brother or sister to love and grow up with. I have heard from many families that say they decided to adopt a child and now feel that their families are complete.

Then there is the fact that parents will often support their children beyond the age of 18, when they are starting college or have their first job. With children that grow up as orphans, once they turn 18, they are on their own, which makes them more likely to work in low-paying jobs that force them to work so many hours they do not have much a chance to improve themselves, or worse yet, they turn to a life of crime.

Also, when families decide to adopt a child they greatly decrease the chance that a child will fall in with the wrong crowd, because adoption agencies do a pretty good job of scouting out potential adopting families and their qualifications to adopt in the first place.

I think that when a couple or family makes the decision to adopt a child, it has an immediate impact on their family and society as a whole. It can be one of the greatest and yet simplest things for a person to do, and I applaud all of those people that decide to do so.
